Bad Piggies: “Let’s be bad guys”

Bad Piggies: “Let’s be bad guys”
It’s a matter of public record that Angry Birds has conditioned me to despise pigs. My early devotion to catapulted avians has left me snarling at the Sainsburys meat counter. Those… those pigs! With their stupid crowns! How I hate them and their smug little green faces.

Broforce! Yaaaaaaaay.

Broforce! Yaaaaaaaay.
Broforce! Say it aloud. Speak its name and be happy, for it is exactly the game that the name suggests it will be. Over on Eurogamer, the ever-lovely Jeffrey Matulef argued that it's the action-adventure that Ubisoft's rather miserable Expendables 2 should have been. It's hard to improve on that description, really, so I won't try. Instead, here are a few paragraphs on why I like it so much.

Exo: ‘Big Fish, Little Fish, Cardboard Box – The Game’
My main immersion into music videos has generally come when slumped in front of MTV2 at inadvisable hours in the morning. I don’t even know if MTV2 exists still. I’m that old.

Let’s not divert back to the time when my soggy brain did wet backflips at the sight of the Papa Roach bassist flinging his guitar around his neck in a full 360 degrees though. Let’s talk Exo – a downloadable music video that you can see, hear and wander around inside.

Hero Academy - it's a lab as much as a battlefield

Have we short-changed games by comparing them to movies?

Have we short-changed games by comparing them to movies?
Games are always being compared to films – but is this doing most of them an enormous disservice? Do films really have anything to say about Drop7 or Tetris? And if they don't, what does? Does poetry have the answer

The Border Lands – Gearbox goes back to the ’80s

The Border Lands – Gearbox goes back to the '80s

Oh man, this is such a clever idea. To celebrate the imminent launch of Borderlands 2, Gearbox has commissioned creative agency Ralph to produce a version of the original title designed as though it was a home computer release of the late eighties. Entitled The Border Lands, the game can be played on its own dedicated site, and it’s worth a go. It’s essentially an arena-based shooter, using the characters and bandits from the Gearbox titles. Killing enemies gives you XP which levels your character up, and dead baddies often drop new weapons, which you can steal.

It’s...
