I’ve still never really forgiven Irem for cancelling the Disaster Report series. Sure, there were rumours the company made its decision for ethical reasons after the Japanese earthquake. But those suggestions have been refuted by the producer of Disaster Report 4, Kazuma Kujo, who says it was down to not being able to finish the product before its deadline. That sounds unlikely as no developer has ever been able to finish a product before the deadline. That’s how the industry “works”.

Whatever, the loss of this always entertaining disaster sim series left a wreckage strewn gap in my life. Luckily, German studio Quadriga Games has now announced that it’s bringing its Emergency franchise from PC to iPad. This real-time strategy adventure will pit keen rescuers against a series of 13 catastrophe scenarios, each requiring a different mix of firemen, police, and rescue workers who have to secure the scene and transport victims out. The 18 units also include helicopters and ‘pumpers’. I don’t know what pumpers are. Water pumps, maybe?

The HD isometric details look adequately detailed and rather exciting. Just look at that burning aeroplane! And there are Game Center achievements. It’s out on 11 July.
