The Font Bot project is the best of ideas. Brainchild of Jonathan Yule, the site invites graphic designers to create robots using the letters of the alphabet drawn from a single font.

Two ‘font-bots’ are then placed in a match-up, with visitors to the site voting on their favourite.

Each ‘like’ deals a single unit of damage to the rival bot with the winner taking the round. The site describes its raison d’etre as ‘a battle for the future of type supremacy’ but really it’s just an excuse for designers to make awesome robots out of Helvetica rivets. Which is the kind of job every turtle neck-wearing child dreams of when growing up.

What Hookshot would really like is a fully-controllable video game version of the idea. So yeah, if somebody could make that happen for the weekend that’d be wonderful. That’s how games are made, right?

Here’s a video of Tech Romancer for the Dreamcast to provide a little inspiration.
