Okay, so Game of the Week isn’t actually a regular thing, but I thought I needed to fire it up today because Qrth-Phyl is out. Qrth-Phyl? What’s that?

It’s the latest from Hermitgames, who made the truly wondrous Leave Home. That’s a side-scrolling shooter that uses self-generating code and levels that shuffle around depending on your performance. Qrth-Phyl gets in on both those elements too, but it’s also a 3D version of Blockade.

Blockade’s better known as Snake, probably, but Qrth-Phyl doesn’t just take the template: it also works as a fascinating interactive history of the game – if you can find the key to unlock all its secrets. Even if you can’t – and it’s quite easy, actually – it’s still a dazzlingly creative arcade title that should absolutely not be missed.

Buy it on XBLIG for 80 MSP, perhaps, or on PC here for $3.
