Heroes and Generals is a spiffy free-to-play affair that melds the derring-do of first person soldiers with the stiff upper lips of the sturdy fellows pushing troops around the map to bosh Jerry.

Developers Reto-Moto have just released a rather clever trailer. Read on, why don’t you?

The game lets you fight MP bouts on the beaches, in the fields and around French farmhouses as an FPS Hero. What makes the game clever is that your cries for back-up and airstrikes are heard higher up the tiers of command in an overall Strategy game – which is where the Generals strut around nervously smoking pipes. Away from their logistical thought and player direction, meanwhile, all AWOL soldiers can help the war effort while they’re on the bus – decoding enemy intelligence and ordering bombing raids on a Heroes and Generals app to the consternation of other commuters.

Don’t take our word for it though. Why not gaze in wonder at a group of Danish game developers pretending to be in a tank, when they’re not actually in a tank.
