What are you doing? Unless you’re playing High Vaultage, stop doing it and go and play High Vaultage instead.

Ostritch Banditos got in touch with us last week to tell us about their new game. They told us it was free, and then they name-checked Vlambeer, so I was pretty certain I was going to like what they had come up with.

And I really do. It feels like Canabalt mixed with Daley Thompson’s Decathalon and a little Lunar Lander, really. You hammer left and right to send your pole-vaulter into a trot, hit space to launch him into the air, and then try to keep going as long as you can, bouncing off balloons, using burritos to power a kind of methane jetpack – I’m not investigating this element too closely – collecting stuff, controlling your pitch and then crashing next to a cow. If you’re lucky.

There’s stuff to unlock, since it’s 2012, and there’s an annoying log-in prompt that pops up at the end, but that’s hardly a big deal. What is a big deal is that High Vaultage is clever and fun and ready to play for free right now.
