Finally, a game with the guts to ask: what would happen if Rubik’s Cubes floated around in space and blew up when you started adding new blocks to them? Critical Mass is an interesting spin – ha! – on the old Match Three routine, and it’s out right now for PC and Mac. Check this out:

I’ve been playing all afternoon, and it’s pretty entertaining. The main gist to the thing is that you have to match groups of four same-coloured cubes together and keep the overall mass of each level as small as you can. Hold off long enough without a match and everything explodes, leaving you feeling a bit silly. There are power-ups, plenty of levels and a range of different modes. The camera’s horrible at first, but you quickly get to grips with it.
I picked it up on Steam for £3.49, incidentally. It’s also available on Impulse.
