King Rollo is rumoured to be seeking an official tie-in

Goldfinger was the man, the man with a Midas touch. A spider’s touch. (Trombone. Trombone.) Now, though, you too can turn a lady to gold! You don’t even need paint. Just a lovely, sad, free and fiercely clever online puzzle game called Midas.

Your mission? Why, to touch the hand of your beloved. The problem? Everything you touch turns to gold – from the ground you walk on, to the blocks overhead, to the pretty lady you’re in love with. Thankfully, however, a quick dabble in a block of blue will nullify your golden touch – at least until the next screen. And if that isn’t a strong formula for browser-based puzzling then, quite frankly, [insert unlikely gold-based pun here].

It’s a real work-out for the departments of the brain responsible for logical thinking, but also plays havoc with the offices responsible for love and soppy girl stuff. Developers Wanderlands (also responsible for the remarkable Impasse) punctuate levels with minimalist story droplets that simultaneously reward and add depth and… well, to say any more would spoil affairs somewhat. Just play it and enjoy it.

"What do you know about gold, Bond?" "I know when you paint topless women with it, they get dead."
