A longstanding issue I’ve had with my masculinity is that my wife knows more about football than me.

She’ll, for example, loudly decry the decision to play some famous footballer from the Bundesliga out of position and then demand to know my opinion. Sometimes she’ll deliberately ‘forget’ the name of a player and put on a dizzy blonde act, just so she can hear me make an excuse about me not wearing my glasses  - only for her to magically say ‘Nicklas Bendtner!’ a second later.

So when info about Quizball, a Euro 2012 Quiz Game, appeared in my inbox I realised it would be an opportunity to prove that I’m actually on an equal pedestal to her indoors. An iPhone football trivia game, what could go wrong?

Well, she got to the bloody quarter-finals didn’t she – and I went out 3-0 to the Swedes in the Groups. Quizball is a simple multiple choice iPhone quiz game – you select a chosen country and face down the sides they’d face in the Euros. A correct answer is a goal to you, a failed strike results in a goal to the opposition.

It’s a decent and topical game, even if a lot of the questions are currently very much about ancient European football history rather than the to-ing and fro-ing of the current competing teams and footballing countries. One would hope that this will change as the Euros continue, since developers Ludometrics promise to keep pumping fresh trivia in for as long as the tournament runs.

Anyway I’m off to stand in pub like proper men do, in an attempt to deflect attention from my shameful emasculation. Football, eh? Football!

You can purchase Quizball on iOs from the App Store for 69p if you fancy.
