My official period of state mourning for Deadlight has now passed. I can now slump towards you, eyes to the ground with gamepad plaintively proffered upwards, and mourn a great could-have-been. Oh Tequila Works, you got me in such a tizzy – and then cruelly snatched my dreams away.
There’s a reason that Deadlight is our most covered game on Hookshot Inc. It’s a game that’s a hymn to gaming gone by, the likes of Another World and Flashback aren’t far from its mind, but its also a very modern take on an apocalyptic fast-zombie nightmare. Even if it’s set in 1986.
The latest ‘Fear Yourself’ trailer kicks ass and takes names.
Is Deadlight this year’s Limbo? Well, there’s definitely a bit when the hero climbs quite close to a sign that says ‘Hotel’ on it. So that looks like a dead cert to us. Microsoft have just sent forth an impressive trailer for Tequila Work’s post apocalyptic side-scroller – so prepare to taste the XBLA desolation.
At this point it’s hard to tell just what’ll be this year’s Shadow Complex or Limbo: an XBLA title that breezes in one summer, and summarily conquers all before it. Microsoft, however, seem to think they’ve found it in Deadlight.
Under construction by a Spanish gang called Tequila Works (guys, tequila NEVER works) it’s a cinematic puzzle platformer in a post-apocalyptic world.
