Okay, I’ll admit up front that this post is basically for my own benefit. Every so often, I get an itch to play around with Tonematrix, but I always forget what it’s called, and then I end up spending a few hours googling stuff like “soundtoy grid” and “music thing with boxes.” Now it’s up here, I won’t have to!
As an added bonus, you get to mess around with the single best soundtoy I’ve ever found on the internet. It’s been knocking around for years, so you probably know it already, but it never hurts to be reacquainted with an old friend. Tonematrix is completely rad, if you ask me, and one of the raddest things about it is how hard it is to make genuinely awful noises with it. I think that’s because it subtly alters the timing as you add new notes, but I’m not particularly musical, so that could be baloney. Enjoy!
