I generally hate those topical political games that crop up around elections, but that’s generally because they’re topical and political first and second, and games a distant third. If they’re partisan, they’re dogmatic, and if they’re not partisan, they’re just smug. Vote!!!, by Chair Entertainment, isn’t like that at all.
Vote!!!’s a rather good game, actually – and the game in question is Infinity Blade. It’s been rejigged here with colourful visuals, bobble-headed combatants, and a witty new script that turns battles into debates, parries into rebuttals, and shields into damage control. It’s got a decent upgrade system that sees you unlocking new weapons and perks – I’m currently beating Romney with a sausage on a stick – and there’s an absolutely lovely coin-grabbing mechanic that kicks in during mid-battle cut-scenes. Oh yeah, and that classic Infinity Blade slowdown which makes your strikes feel wonderfully brutal is in place and working fine.
It’s an effort, I guess, to engage people with the political system, which is always a little harder with an incumbent running for re-election. Whichever side you ultimately come down on, then, it’s worth checking out. But, seriously, did you see what Mitt Romney did to his dog?
