Zineth, the experimental racing game from student indie The Arcane Kids launched at the weekend and is available for free download on Mac or PC here.
It reminds me of Dreamcast era Sega, probably because it looks a little like Jet Set Radio if you squint your eyes and hold your breath, but the game also exudes that sort of breezy freedom that only young buck genius creatives working to boundaries of their own making – rather than those imposed upon them – can deliver.
It’s one of the most exciting games on the indie scene this year, not least because it’s The Arcane Kids’ first effort, pointing to goodness knows what they might do with a bit of money and backing. It’s also exciting to see an underground game eschew the 8-bit style for a stew of other influences.
The game’s exceptional experimental soundtrack by duryea gode is available for free download here and give the launch trailer below two and a half minutes of your day.
